Four Marble Falls baseball players named to all-district list

In a district that produced the state champion, four Marble Falls High School baseball players were recognized for their seasons by District 25-5A coaches.

Third baseman Jon “Gouda” Zamarippa and outfielder Bryce Atkinson were named to the second team, while pitcher Hudson McBryde and outfielder Cale Cochran were named honorable mention.

“The two on the second team deserved it,” Mustangs head coach Tyler Porter said. “They were two important guys for our team.”

Atkinson’s bat is what swung in his favor. He bat .305.

“He had a good year at the plate,” Porter said.

Zamarippa was listed as a “corner infielder.”

McBryde was the Mustangs’ ace pitcher.

“He was well deserving,” the coach said. “And good for Cale to get it. It sets up for him next year to make a run.”

The district’s depth was on full display during the playoffs. Georgetown won the Class 5A state championship June 11 with a 2-1 win against Frisco Wakeland. Cedar Park, which won the district title, lost in the third round of the playoffs to Buda Johnson 4-0 in a one-game, winner-take-all contest. Johnson also defeated Liberty Hill 2-1 in an area series. And Leander Rouse lost to New Braunfels Canyon 2-1 in a bi-district series.

Marble Falls finished sixth in the district race.
